Education & Recognition
Julian graduated from Cardiff in 1996 and after completing the Fellowship and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS & MFDS) undertook a Masters degree (MSc) in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute, which was awarded (with distinction) in October 2001. He completed specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at Manchester, gaining the highest restorative qualification in the UK, the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship – FDS(Rest Dent) – in 2006.
He was made a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2011 and a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials in 2012. He gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership in 2013, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2018.
In 2022 he was Awarded (by invitation) Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry (FCGDent) in recognition of his expertise and contribution to education of general dentists.
Teaching and Mentoring
His roles reflect his keen interest in post-graduate education and skills improvement for the dental team and he has broad experience of providing a variety of academic and hands-on training. He has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh for over a decade, having examined for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry, Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry and the specialty Membership in Restorative Dentistry.
